Best Type Of Exfoliation For Your Skin

Best Type Of Exfoliation For Your Skin

The best type of exfoliation for your skin depends on what age you are, how sensitive your skin is, and what results you are trying to achieve.

What is the BEST exfoliation for your skin? If you watched our previous video, we talked about the importance of exfoliating your skin and the MANY benefits. But did you know there are actually 3 different types of exfoliants? Here are the 3 exfoliants AND the skin types for which they are best suited!

***If you are using an exfoliating brush, please watch to see why there are better alternatives. CLICK HERE

1. PHYSICAL EXFOLIANT

  • Uses beads or crushed seeds
  • Exfoliates manually using your hands in a rubbing motion
  • Scrubs off dead skin cells
  • Recommended for: younger skin (ages 30 or younger) with little to no issues with skin

Here is one that is great for younger skin:

2. CHEMICAL EXFOLIANT

  • Uses fruit enzymes or fruit acids
  • Exfoliates automatically (no rubbing needed)
  • Dissolves protein of dead skin cells
  • Recommended for: dry skin, dull skin, aging skin, hyperpigmentation, breakout-prone skin, Acne
  • **** If you have senstive or Rosacea prone skin here are some exfoliants that you MAY be able to use (those with EXTREMELY sensitive skin may not be able to use these:

The ones below have shown great improvement in brightening, lightning and evening out skin tone with almost every skin type for my clients:

Iluma Lightening Exfoliating powder

Or

Both of these exfoliators are fairly gentle to the skin, have brightening and lightning properties.

The difference is that the the Image Iluma Intense Brightening Exfoliating Power uses Coconut milk and pumpkin enzymes to exfoliate the skin and Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant uses Papain (papaya enzymes) and Salicylic acid for exfoliating properties. Both are fairly gentle.

You can use the Iluma Intense Brightening Exfoliating Powder around your eyes as a gentle eye exfoliation product.

3. COMBINATION – PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL EXFOLIANT

  • Uses beads or crushed seeds in a fruit enzyme orfruit acid solution (the PHYSICAL and CHEMICAL together)
  • Exfoliates manually and automatically
  • Fruit enzymes or acids soften and loosen dead skin cells while beads or seeds manually scrub dead skin cells off
  • Christy’s personal recommendation for MOST CLIENTS (**people with sensitive skin should consult their skincare professional**)

Our personal recommendation for our clients (and what we use ourselves) is the combination exfoliant.(Make sure to consult your skincare professional first!) The reason we prefer this one is because you are using the rubbing motion with the beads or seeds to loosen up the dead skin cells and the fruit enzyme or acid is softening the inner cellular cement that holds them together. You’re getting ALL of that off resulting in a nice, clean, skin-tone glow.

This is our ALL TIME BEST SELLING EXFOLIANT:

This is a three in one product where you can:

-Add it to any Image cleanser to boost the exfoliating properties of your cleanser

-Use it alone as a scrub for daily/weekly exfoliation

-Use as a mask once week for DEEPER exfoliation

The third ingredient is Gylcolic Acid so it does penetrate the Stratum Corenum fairly qickly. It is highly effective in dealing with congestion (bumps on the skin). It also contains Salicylic Acid and Lactic acid to address break outs and it has Phytic acid to help lighten and brighten skin tone and hyperpigmentation.

  • It also balanced out the exfoliating properties with humectants such as Sodium Hyaluronate and anti inflammatories such as beta glucan.
  • It is recommended for the following skin types:
  • -Aging, Dull, Dry, Oily. Break out Prone skin, and Hyperpigmentation and Acne Scars

If you are more concerned with uneven skin tones such as hyper pigmentation or age spots, daily exfoliation supplemented by an acid peel will deliver better and faster results. If you want to know more about acid peels and what type may be best for you, please click here.

**DO NOT GET AN ACID PEEL UNTIL YOU WATCH AND READ THIS**

By regularly exfoliating, you can “trick” your skin into acting younger.
