3 Most Effective Ways to Lighten Acne Scars and Dark Spots

The three most effective ways to lighten acne scars and dark spots are to exfoliate regularly. This helps remove darkened skin and the skin will regenerate new skin making the skin lighter. Second, use multiple lightening products to increase the speed to lighten the skin. Finally, use a high SPF sunscreen to avoid melanin production and help lighten existing acne scars and age spots.

Exfoliate Lightens Age Spots and Acne Scars

1. Exfoliate daily and for Deeper Exfoliation,USE PEELS IN THE FALL/WINTER: Pm works best but you can exfoliate both day and night. You can OVER exfoliate causing flakiness, dryness, and itchiness, especially in the winter.

Using Lightening Products without Hydroquinone (skin bleaching agent):

If you are planning to exfoliate twice a day, then use a gentle, powder based exfoliant during the day and a more acid based exfoliant in the PM. Here are some suggestion for lightening age spots:

–Anti-Aging and brightening Exfoliant

This exfoliant is infused with power antioxidants and warms up as you useit on skin. This should be used at night only and works best with the Dermalogica Powerbright Line

or if you prefer to use just the serum, make sure you exfoliate first, so that this lightening serum will be more readily absorbed.

***3 in one Exfoliating product Ageless Resurfacing Mask-This product, I use the professional formula AND it is a BEST SELLER in our boutique. It has three different acids to help exfoliate the skin for rapid lightening and it also has lightening and brightening agents WITHOUT using Hydroquinone.

The reason why our clients love this product is because not only does it lighten and brighten age spots but it also evens out skin tone and lightens and fades acne scars.

Add it Cleanser-You can add this to most cleansers to boot up the exfoliating properties of the cleanser (works best with Image Cleansers or Gel Balancing cleansers)

Use it as a scrub- You can use it alone after cleansing .

Use it as a mask- For deeper exfoliation you can apply it as a scrub and leave on as a mask or mix it with the Vital C Anti Aging Hydrating Mask.

If you OVER exfoliate, you can make your skin more sensitive to the sun and may increase Melanin production, making your brown spots appear darker.

When you use an extremely effective exfoliating product, the lightening products you use can be more readily absorbed into the skin.

Layering lightening products is also the most effective way because as each product is absorbed into the different layers of skin, less produt reaches the basal layer ( the innermost layer of the epidermis) where the melanin is formed.

Thes products have shown to work effectively with my clients who tend to have more reactive skin. They do NOT use any skin bleaching agent and use Tysinase Inhibitors which prevent the formation of melanin.

Lightening Serum-more gentle way of lightening age spots over time.

Lightening Cream

If you have age spots on your body, here is a body lotion that addresses age spots

Exfoliating evens out your skin tone, and any lightning serums you are using are more readily absorbed into the skin. For immediate better results, use a blend of Glycolic acid, Lactic acid, and Kojic Acid. PLEASE SEEK A PROFESSIONAL. CHEMICAL PEEL BURNS CAUSE MORE PIGMENTATION. Here are some tips to prepare if you are considering a peel.

USE A SUNSCREEN-TO PREVENT AGE SPOTS FROM FORMING AND DARKENING

2. Use a HIGH SPF Sunscreen- Using a 30 SPF sunscreen and a 45 SPF sunscreen does NOT increase coverage.

For example, if you use a 15 SPF make up on top of a 30 SPF sunscreen, your protection coverage drops down to 17 SPF.Using a sunscreen that contains lighteners and brighters are also recommended.

EVERY TIME you are exposed to the sun such as driving, walking back and forth to your car, etc stimulates your Melanocytes (cells that create Melanin) to create Melanin that makes your skin brown

The best sunscreens for your skin type- Acne, Anti-Aging, Sensitive or Dry:

Sunscreen for ACNE, Oily, and Break out prone

Sunscreen for Anti-Aging, History of Skin Cancer, All skin types

Sunscreen for Dry, Dehydrated, Sensitive, Rosacea prone

Sheer Tinted Sunscreen

USE LIGHTENING PRODUCTS

3. Use a lightning product that are Tyrosinase Inhibitors- Tyrosinase is an enzyme that is needed in the first step to make melanin. If you inhibit Tyrosinase production, your brown spots and hyper pigmentation areas start to lighten and fade.

Some examples of this would be products that contain Licorice Root, Arbutin, Kojic Acid, Etc.

These three things needed to be done every day and NOT occasionally. The more consistent your skin care regimen, the better your results will be.
