The Best Moisturizer For Your Skin Type

Have you ever asked one of these questions about your skin and Moisturizer…?

“If I have oily skin, do I STILL need Moisturizer?”

“My dry skin is STILL dry after I apply Moisturizer! What do I do??”

“What do I do to keep my skin soft?”

“What if my skin is TOO sensitive for most Moisturizers?”

Read on or watch our short video below to find out the answers to these questions, what you need to keep your skin hydrated and soft, AND what ingredients to look for (or avoid…) in your Moisturizer!

So, what is the BEST facial Moisturizer? We’re going to break down what types of Moisturizers and which igredients are best for ALL skin types. But first…

Here are some things you’ll want to consider for a DAYTIME Moisturizer.

You NEED to have an SPF of at least 30 in your Moisturizer, or an SPF of 50 and up if you’ve had skin cancer or your family has a history of skin cancer. Here are some ingredients you’ll want to look into for your Daytime Moisturizer (and you’ll want to see these in the TOP third of the ingredients list):

ALOE VERA GEL

SODIUM HYALURONATE

SODIUM PCA

GLYCERIN

SEAWEED / ALGAE-

Jon Ares Face and Body Seaweed Hydrating Gel Moisturizer With Aloe For Dry Skin -is a lightweight gel based moisturizer that works great for oily and acneic skin types.  Derives its humectants from seaweed and marshmallow extract to calm, soothe and heal.

All of these ingredients are “HUMECTANTS” meaning they pull in humidity or moisture from the air and bind it to your skin keeping it hydrated.

**If you are sensitive to Iodine or tend to break out when using products with Iodine, then you should AVOID Seaweed and Algae.**

Moisturizers & Ingredients for DRY SKIN

Now, some people naturally have dry skin and some have EXTREMELY dry skin, which could be “ALIPOID” skin. This literally means “without oil”. People with Alipoid skin produce very, very little oil. Their Sebaceous Glands are smaller and are not as active.

These people CAN actually use products that contain waxes and Petroleum-based ingredients. They will not clog the pores because the skin already does not product enough oil.

For everyone else with regular dry skin, you need to add moisture to your skin and prevent it from escaping. If you live in a dry and arid climate (such as California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, etc.) the moisture is escaping too fast from the skin.

The best way to treat this is to use a Hydrating Serum (in addition to your Moisturizer) because it’s has a higher concentration of Humectants.

There are many anti aging serums out on the market.  However, this one is great because it addresses several skin conditions.

The Vital C Anti -Aging Hydrating Serum is recommended for:

-Dry,Dehydrated

-Rosacea prone, sensitive

-Aging

-Post Treatment

-Eczema

-Sun burned/Sun Damaged

-Oily/Acne

This is also great for people who have compromised lipid barriers such as people who are swimmers, lifeguards, work outdoors, exposed to extreme weather conditions (snow, wind, and/or sun).

The serum can neutralize free radicals to fight anti aging.  The serum can also calm, soothe, and hydrate dry, sensitive skin.

It can also be used as a light moisturizer and be blended in with the Acne Medicated lotion for those who have dry skin due to acne.

Apply the Hydrating Serum first, and while your face is STILL wet, apply a Hydrating SPRAY Toner. (Avoid Toners that have alcohol in them, they can just dehydrate your skin more.) Spray the Toner 7-10 times all over your face until it is completely saturated, and while your face is, again, still wet, THEN apply your Moisturizer.

Moisturizers & Ingredients for SENSITIVE SKIN

Now, dry skin can tend to be a bit sensitive. Or you may just have sensitive skin. Here are some ingredients to look for:

GREEN TEA EXTRACT

GERANIUM

CALENDULA

COLLOIDAL SILVER

These ingredients are all naturally anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. They bring down the redness and irritation. Dry skin and sensitive skin lack a “LIPID BARRIER” which is a natural shield protecting your skin from the environment. You want to restore that barrier, and these ingredients can do just that.

If you have sensitive skin and acne – you need a moisturizer that is water based or gel based but if you are exposed to outdoor elements, you may need one to have a tad bit thicker consistency like a milky lotion such as the Vital C Anti Aging Hydrating Serum.

Moisturizers & Ingredients for OILY SKIN

If you have oily skin, you actually want to AVOID these ingredients:

WAXES

SYNTHETIC WAXES

BEESWAX

PETROLEUM

PETROLATUM

MINERAL OIL

SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES

SEAWEED / ALGAE (if you are sensitive to Iodine)

All of these can be “COMEDOGENIC” which means “can clog pores”. What to DO want to look for in a Moisturizer is water-based or gel-based ingredients with a light-to-medium texture.

Here is an OIL FREE, MATTE SERUM to use with your sunscreen or alone at night to hydrate your skin

Moisturizers & Ingredients for HYPERPIGMENTATION

You’ll want to look for ingredients that will slowly lighten and brighten the skin. The more that you use it the more the dark spots will eventually lighten. (We’re all in such a hurry to get FAST results, but you don’t want to rush lightening and brightening of dark spots because you may traumatize the skin causing it to darken even MORE!) Here are some ingredients to look for:

KOJIC ACID

ARBUTIN

MULBERRY EXTRACT

PHYTIC ACID

BEARBERRY EXTRACT

All of these are PLANT BASED  (i.e. natural!) lighteners and brighteners.

FINAL TIP

Please try to AVOID mixing-and-matching drugstore brand products with professional / clinical brand products. This may cause the ingredients to neutralize, thus making the Moisturizers (and other products) less effective.
