3 Anti Aging Tips For Neck And Chest

The three anti aging tips for the neck and chest was a request from a client who noticed that her skin was changing for the better as she was coming in faithfully for her facials.

Although her skin had improved in texture, tone and appearance, she noticed that her neck and her chest had started to show signs of sun damage with creasing, wrinkles and age spots.

Perhaps you have noticed some fine lines and wrinkles on your neck and chest, or maybe you have seen someone who had beautiful facial skin but their neck and chest looked 20 years older.

The average thickness of the face is almost DOUBLE compared to your neck and your decollete’ (lower neck and chest area).

These areas are more prone to signs of aging not only because of thin skin, but also:

-fewer sebaceous glands -drier skin, less protection

-fewer but more prominent hair follicles leading to less structural support

Like the periocular ( anti aging for under eye circles, bags, fine lines and wrinkles )area, the neck and chest receive more exposure to the sun which causes proteins, collagen and elastin to break down.

Exposure to the sun in the neck area can cause hyper pigmentation AND redness.

Poikiloderma of Civatte is a skin condition that mostly affects women. It is mainly on the neck and sometimes on the chest EXCEPT for the area right under the chin.

This skin condition usually has a mixture of hyper pigmentation, hypo pigmentation, and underlying redness. For some people, it may look like chicken skin due to thinner skin with more prominent hair follicles.

Some other factors include genetics, low estrogen levels and fragrance induced hyper pigmentation.

Lifestyle and habits such as smoking, sun exposure, diet, and sleep can affect also affect your skin. These are common well known factors but did you know that weight gain and weight loss can also affect the appearance of the neck and the chest? Especially repeated significant weight loss and weight gain.

“Tech Neck” is also a term now used to describe the lines and wrinkles formed in the neck area by constantly looking down at our computers, lap tops, tablets, and phones. These are called permanent elastic creases. In other words, permanent lines that in the skin that become increasingly evident over time.

This can also cause more wrinkles in the chest if you tend to slouch over while on your devices…Not to mention being constantly exposed to blue light that also increases aging of the skin. (That is a another video, entirely!)

1st Tip for Anti Aging of the Neck and the Chest

Best way to prevent more wrinkling and creases in the neck is by putting the device at eye level and adjusting your posture.

2nd Tip for Anti Aging of the Neck and Chest

By sleeping on your side, you can compress the skin together causing creases in the skin. Night after night of this can cause break down of collagen and elastin. This can form permanent creases in the skin.

Chest wrinkles also known as cleavage wrinkles or Langer’s Lines can also be prevented by using silicone gel chest pads to prevent the creasing of the skin.

Silicone Chest Pads.

3rd Tip for anti Aging of the Neck and Chest

Treat your neck and chest area like your face.

Get into the habit of applying sunscreen on your neck and your chest, especially if you are wearing a shirt that shows your chest area such as a v-neck or a scoop neck.

A great sunscreen I recommend that I personally use AND I recommend for my clients is a sunscreen that has:

Plant Stem Cells

Powerful Peptides

Plant Based Lighteners and Brighteners

There are TWO formulas.

Oil Free– Matte (with Micro- Sponges) to keep absorbing oil when your skin produces excess oil

Hydrating-For Dry and Dehydrated Skin

Use the products you are using on your face and extend the product application down to your face and neck.

Use products that contain Anti oxidants especially combination of Vitamin C and E . IF you don’t know why, click the link here :

Anti Aging Tips You Should NEVER Mix

Your neck area can be especially sensitive, even more on your face. So when using anti aging products, please make sure you DON’T mix certain types of ingredients since they can end up:

-Neutralizing the pH of the products and diminishing results

-Over sensitizing your skin and causing a reaction.

AHA’s help increase skin cell turnover rate which can result in evening out skin tone and lightening hyper pigmented areas and help stimulate new skin cell turnover rate to increase absorption rate of products.

Products that have PEPTIDES also help with targeting specific ingredients to the needed area to stimulate collagen and elastin as well as help retain the already existing collagen and elastin.

There are also neck and decollete creams you can use. These specialized creams are usually thicker in texture and heavier in weight.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES FOR ANTI AGING OF THE NECK AND CHEST

If you are seeking more drastic results, you may want to consider PROFESSIONAL services such as lasers, chemical peels (both light and medium levels), microdermabrasion (for more thicker, sun damaged skin), micro-needling, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma Procedure), and even plastic surgery.

***The most ideal time to have these services performed is during the winter.

First, you can wear a sweater the have the area covered while it is healing and not being exposed to the sun. Second, you don’t have to worry about the sun in MOST places in the winter .

Don’t neglect your neck and chest. It is one of the most overlooked areas for care yet the second most exposed area that people see.
