How To Treat Dry And Dehydrated Skin: Do This One Thing

How to treat dry and dehydrated skin: Do this ONE THING – First, although this ONE THING can increase your skin’s ability to hold in moisture for (especially) dehydrated skin in dry climate, this ONE THING can help ALL SKIN TYPES of ALL AGES and not just mature skin types.

I recently did a video on:

Anti-Aging Tips: Best Skin Care Tips for 60s and 70s

This was in response to the many, many requests I received from our viewers on You Tube and on Instagram. This video focused on the skin during this particular life stage and what ingredients and skin care products those in this life stage should focus on.

I decided to do this video because I am seeing more and more clients (no matter what their age) with dehydrated skin.

(***PRO TIP *** later in the video)

Dehydrated skin can be caused/exacerbated by dry climate and age.

It can also be due to over use/misuse of anti-aging skin care products and acne products that can increase dryness of the skin (less oil) and dehydration (less water).

Most of my clients claim they are drinking plenty of water… so what is this ONE PRO TIPS that research has shown to improve and increase hydration in the skin?

Spraying fine water particles onto the skin. NOT SIMPLY APPLYING A HYDRATING SERUM OR CREAM.

If your toner is NOT A SPRAY TONER, here is a bottle that you can pour your toner into to create a fine mist:

FINE MISTER SPRAY

This study was conducted at Aichi Medical University in Japan on:

  • 17 healthy adult women between the ages of 30-46.

The researchers measured the skins:

  • elasticity
  • moisture levels
  • TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss)

on the cheek area, after spraying the fine water particles, with the temperature being 24 C or 75.2 F and 34.5% relative humidity.

Now, I am NOT going to go into the nitty gritty of the study so I will include the link below.

In summary, it is NOT just about spraying a fine mist of water onto the skin.

Treating Dry Dehydrated Skin in the Winter:

Yes, spraying a fine mist, especially in the winter when the skin is dry, improves hydration and increases water retention ability.

But the KEY to increase water retention function is when the diameter of the sprayed fine water particles is SMALLER than the intercellular spaces and when the particles are non-charged.

How to Get Rid of Dry Skin vs Dehydrated Skin

Hyaluronic Acid – What the Beauty Industry DOESN’T Want You to Know…

This means that the water droplets that are being sprayed on are not coming from a steamer or a humidifier. This is a common treatment to do during the Winter, and it certainly helps increase moisture in the air to help your skin since decreased moisture in the air can wreak havoc on your skin during the winter.

How the fine water mist helps to DECREASE TEWL:

The reduction of sebum production in middle-aged women can lead to the increase of TEWL. TEWL may be increased due to lack of sebum membrane formation.

In this study, TEWL was the lowest in condition, possibly because the fine water particle formed water molecules on the surface of the facial skin, which emulsified with the sebum, then formed a sebum membrane…. resulting in an increased barrier function.

Now in the study, they mentioned using a steamer/humidifier long term can lead to condensation and mold growth, so using a fine mister or a spray toner is still MORE EFFECTIVE than using a cotton based toner (one you apply with cotton).

How to Treat Dry and Dehydrated Skin (if you have oily skin):

***PRO TIP***:

To really increase your skin’s ability to retain moisture, especially if you have very dehydrated skin, or live in a very dry climate:

(Even if you have oily, breakout-prone skin, you still need water)

If you have oily, breakout-prone skin and you tend to avoid lotions and creams, you can apply this water-based hydrating gel AFTER spraying your face with a fine mist from a hydrating toner.

If you have active breakouts, spot treat the active breakouts instead of applying the drying acne medication all over the face.

Best Moisturizer for Oily Acne Prone Skin:

The reason that I love this hydrating gel so much is because it is very versatile. It can be used as a:

– Hydrating serum

– Overnight Treatment Mask

– Moisturizer

If contains 5 different humectants to draw moisture to the skin:

– Hyaluronic Acid

– Sodium PCA

– Aloe Vera Juice

– Glycerin

– Laminari Digita Extract

4 anti inflammatory/soothing ingredients

3 ingredients to normalize skin

Instead of using heavy oils or waxes to keep the moisture in, which can cause bumpy skin or increase chances of breakouts for breakout-prone skin, it uses a water dispersible oil that has anti-oxidants.

***PRO TIP 2***

How to Treat Dry Dehydrated Mature Skin:

Apply the hydrating gel treatment FIRST.

Spray the hydrating toner 7-10x with the fine mist toner until the skin is completely saturated.

Apply cream, while your face is still damp, that can help restore lipids and essential fatty acids and ceramides that can help improve the barrier function of the skin.

BOTH skin types can use this as an overnight treatment mask.

This high performance spray toner is suitable for all skin types from oily, breakout-prone skin to dry, mature skin. It also works well with skin that is using anti-aging products that may increase dehydration and dryness.

Hydrating ingredients in the TONER:

– 2nd Ingredient is Glycerin

– Sodium PCA

– Lactic Acid – gentle exfoliant that is also a humectant

-Aloe Vera Juice

A combination of water, hydrolyzed corn starch and Beet Root extract with D-Panthenol help optimize barrier function and raise hydration levels in the skin.

Anti-Aging Ingredients in Toner:

  • Green Tea Extract
  • *Palmitoyl Oligopeptide
  • *Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide
  • helps strengthen and increase water levels on skin

Perservative used:

Instead of using Phenoxyethanol, it is formulated with Benzyl Alcohol. You will see this more and more.

Dehydroacetic ACID – ANTIFUNGAL
